'Just Wright' Helmer Sanaa Hamri to Direct ABC Family Musical (Exclusive)
Filmmaker Sanaa Hamri has been tapped to direct ABC Family's two-hour musical film project. The project, the first of its kind for the Disney-owned cable network, centers on Harper Hutton, who drinks a mysterious elixir that shaves decades off of her life. Under the spell of sorts, she attends the wedding of her estranged daughter in disguise, with the intent of stopping her from marrying a playboy. The telefilm, still in its very early stages of development, will reunite Hamri and executive producer Debra Martin Chase, who collaborated on The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 and Queen Latifah's big screen effort,Just Wright. Hamri's other small screen directing credits include episodes of Showtime's Shameless, ABC's Desperate Housewives and the CW's since-cancelled Life Unexpected. For her part, Chase has been behind a handful of TV films, including Lemonade Mouth and The Cheetah Girls franchise, for sister network, the Disney Channel. Hamri has done other work in the music video space, having recently directed Nicki Minaj's "Super Bass" video, which is up for two MTV Video Music Awards. She is represented by ICM, LKE and Felker, Toczek, Gellman & Suddleson. Email: Lacey.Rose@THR.com Twitter: @LaceyVRose Related Topics Debra Martin Chase Sanaa Hamri
